Work Hours: P/T Project SEARCH follows the Guilford County School Schedule. Approximate hours are 7:30 am-2:30pm Monday through Friday on days school is in session.
Responsibilities:
The Skills Trainer/Job Coach provides individualized support for interns, participating in Project SEARCH. Interns are in their last year of high schools and have an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability (IDD). Interns complete three (3) internships onsite at Moses Cone Hospital, in order to acquire competitive and marketable skills. During each internship rotation, the Skills Trainer/Job Coach works with interns by providing systematic instruction to teach and breakdown tasks, building natural supports, developing accommodations, identifying appropriate assistive technology, etc. To do this, the Skills Trainer/Job Coach must communicate effectively with other skills trainers, mentors, co-workers, support systems, and school and agency personnel as it relates to the student being trained. In addition, the Skills Trainer/Job Coach position requires specific task analysis, assistance with vocational evaluations, and development of job coaching plans.
I. Duties and Responsibilities
- Comply with The Arc of Greensboro’s policies and procedures as they relate to the Project SEARCH program.
- Work with interns, employers, families, job placement specialists, agency personnel, affiliate school personnel and other appropriate parties to problem solve issues related to training and employment.
- Practice positive reinforcement techniques with co-workers, interns, and other staff.
- Provide Pre-Employment Training and Travel Training during summer months for all interns prior to starting program as deemed necessary.
- Communicate with Project SEARCH instructor and other team members to make decisions regarding issues that may affect student success at an internship or competitive job site. These decisions may be related to continued skills training, fading, behavior, job tasks, etc.
- Attend training provided to become knowledgeable of strategies and current “best practices” in the field of supported employment.
- Plan with all team members to determine career interests, specific job preferences (hours, location, etc.), skills and abilities to develop an individualized job development plan.
- Assist in the development of the IEP or other individual plans and implement specific vocational components of the individual plan including job training and the development of specific goals/objectives/activities/ for a successful transition to work.
- Provide and/or plan for training in the areas of grooming, hygiene, communication, budgeting, interviewing, self-advocacy as they relate to successful employment.
- Assist special education personnel in developing more effective vocational curriculum activities for the intern.
- Participate in the decision-making process to identify and implement training strategies and/or services with other Project SEARCH staff and host business staff.
- Maintain a flexible schedule as indicated by the needs of the program and the individual’s served (nights and weekends may be necessary).
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field such as rehabilitation, counseling, social work, psychology, education, human resources, business administration, or economics, from an accredited college or university and one year’s experience as described above.
- Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements.
- Ability to interact with individuals with a variety of Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities in a respectful and empowering manner.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize computer systems for entering required data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with a variety of people. Ability to complete required documentation.
- Must be able to move around a large hospital quickly.
- Must be current or willing to become current in CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens, and NCI Training.
- Must be able to pass an extensive criminal background check.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must complete medical testing and immunization requirements of the work location.
- Knowledge of current “best practices” in the field of supported employment.
Starting Pay: $17 - $21/Hour

Destination Arc Coordinator

Work Hours: P/T This position is a maximum of 20 hours per week. Time and days are flexible according to the needs of the position. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends is required.
Destination Arc Coordinator Responsibilities:
Provide The Arc of Greensboro participants a variety of social, educational and sports activities and events. Coordinator plans, advertises, conducts and provides follow-up for activities.
I. Duties and Responsibilities
- Comply with The Arc of Greensboro’s policies and procedures as they relate to the Destination Arc program.
- Schedule and plan for a minimum of two (2) activities/events per month. Activities may include, but are not limited to dances, ice cream socials, attending Grasshopper games or other community events, parties (Holiday, St. Patrick’s Day, etc.), game night, movie nights, etc. Educational activities may include, but are not limited to Basic Money Skills, Financial Planning for Families of Individuals with IDD, Adulting 101, Basic Safety and First Aid, etc.
- Prepare and disseminate flyers, emails and other notifications of meetings and activities utilizing the organization’s data base.
- Conduct registration for events utilizing the organization’s data base.
- Communicate with participants and families.
- Plan a calendar of events that covers all events and activities for at least a six (6) month period.
- Plan each activity/event and shop for needed supplies.
- Conduct activities and events with the assistance of volunteers and others.
- Maintain records, reports and relevant documentation
- Take photos and prepare newsletter article
- Plan and implement two seasons (Fall/Spring) of the Challenger Baseball League.
- Prepare and disseminate flyers, emails and other notifications about each season utilizing the organization’s data base.
- Conduct registration for each baseball season utilizing the organization’s data base.
- Communicate with participants, families, coaches and volunteers.
- Plan a calendar for each season.
- Shop for needed supplies.
- Set up and operate Saturday morning games (help with line-ups, make sure all equipment is available and coaches are in place).
- Manage and assign tasks to volunteers.
- Put equipment away after games.
- Plan end-of-season celebration.
- Maintain records, reports and relevant documentation.
- Take photos and prepare end-of-season newsletter article.
- Assist with fundraising activities and events.
- Represent the organization in various community forums. Promote the organization’s mission as a provider of community-based services that support individuals with Intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Maintain required certifications (Frist Aid, CPR, NCI).
- Maintain a flexible schedule as indicated by the needs of the program and the individual’s served (nights and weekends may be necessary).
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with individuals with I/DD.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate effectively.
- Computer competency.
Starting Pay: $15 - $17/Hour
