The Arc of Greensboro is excited to take part in this health initiative sponsored by The Arc of the US! ARCG Staff members have been specially trained through the HealthMatters™ Train the Trainer Program to offer a 12 week course for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) designed to motivate participants to take an active role in their own wellness.
Each class session is divided into a lesson and a physical activity. Field trips, cooking classes and special guest speakers will also be included into the schedule. Students will learn the importance of a nutritious diet and exercise, with an emphasis on how to incorporate healthy habits into everyday living.
Participants will be administered a Pre-test and a Post-test consisting of height, weight, BMI and blood pressure. Pre and Post test results will be anonymously submitted to HealthMatters™ in order to measure the effectiveness of the HealthMatters™ 12 week curriculum.
HealthMatters™ encourages organizations to practice what they teach and make healthy changes system wide. So join the conversation with this fun, proven program, because health DOES matter — and we can’t wait to show you why!
There will be a $120.00 Registration Fee. Registered Self Advocates can receive 50% off. Checks can be made out to The Arc of Greensboro – Memo: HealthMatters
